Congrats to Garbage on the release of their first new album in 7 years – “Not Your Kind of People” – and darklings it was worth the wait. We had a grand old time time working with Shirley and the band on the creative campaign for this project. The packaging includes killer photos by Autumn de Wilde, amazing bone assemblages by Ryan Corey, and much more. Finally, we can share some of it with you.

The Dallas Show

Had a wonderful time in Dallas judging the 2012 Dallas Show. A big thanks to my fellow judges (Eric, Pum, Jimmy & Seth) and all of the wonderful people at the DSVC, Olmsted-Kirk Paper Co., Dick Patrick and the many volunteers who helped make it a truly memorable and inspiring weekend.

So stoked to be working with the amazing Grace Potter & The Nocturnals on artwork for their upcoming release, The Lion The Beast The Beat. Check out the first single, “Never Go Back,” written by Dan Auerbach and GP&N. With original artwork by the equally amazing Deedee Cheriel. Can’t wait for this record.

“Ed Fella, please report to the lost and found”

If you’re familiar with Ed Fella’s work, you might know of what he calls his “after-the-fact” flyers—when a visiting artist would come to lecture at CalArts, Ed would create an announcement flyer long after the event was over. Back in 1995 when I was attending CalArts, SMOG came and spoke to the students and Ed proceeded to design his flyer, but never finished it because of a flood in his studio.

I ran into Ed last year and he told me he had found some of the beginnings of his SMOG flyer, but it was water damaged and missing the “G”. When he offered it to us, I emphatically said yes! So we finally received it today, complete with a newly drawn “G”. Thanks Ed!

Now that the cat is out of the bag, we can share the cover art for the new Garbage record. Their fifth album, Not Your Kind of People will be released on May 15 and we couldn’t be happier than to have worked with the nicest band in the world.

We love them all for different reasons.

While walking this morning I spotted many of my neighbors putting finishing touches on their outdoor holiday decorations. Perhaps they’re having guests over for a party this evening or just enjoying the abundant sunshine. In Silverlake you don’t see many homes decked out with dozens of strands of colored lights and oversized lawn objects. More often they are adorned with just a single wreath, or an odd assemblage of baubles carefully hung on a palm, cypress or sycamore. Lamp posts attract tinfoil and ribbon. Nature joins in with a show of seasonal color. It reminded me that it doesn’t take much to get you in the holiday spirit if you keep your eyes open.
